My Choice Family Care is pleased to announce it has completed the process of transitioning its operations from a department of Milwaukee County government to a new private, not-for-profit organization, effective September 1, 2016. The new operation is formally organized as My Choice Family Care Inc., and will be governed by an independent board comprised of community members, business leaders, and medical professionals.

My Choice Family Care contracts with the state of Wisconsin to administer the Family Care program serving Medicaid participants. It is one of the largest managed care organizations in the state, spanning ten counties and serving approximately 8,800 older adults and people with disabilities.

My Choice has delivered the Family Care benefit to its members for over 16 years. “We are thrilled to further our service to some of our state’s most vulnerable citizens,” said Maria Ledger, Chief Executive Officer. “As an independent entity, we will build on our reputation for quality services in an effort to help people maintain their optimal health and independence in the community.”

Ledger adds this is an exciting time of growth for their organization, as they prepare to explore additional service lines that resonate with the My Choice mission.

“My Choice Family Care is no longer a department of County government, but the compassionate, dedicated, expert care they deliver for some of Milwaukee County’s most vulnerable residents isn’t leaving our community,” County Executive Chris Abele said. “I look forward to continuing the excellent working relationship Milwaukee County has with this important organization, and I applaud My Choice Family Care CEO Maria Ledger and her team for ensuring a smooth transition.”

As an independent managed care organization, My Choice is eligible for licensure as an HMO, a requirement to operate a fully integrated model of care such as the state’s Family Care Partnership program or other similar programs.

Ledger credits effective planning, communication, and execution—as well as positive working relations and the support of local government partners—for making this transition possible.

My Choice Family Care Inc. directly employees nearly 100 people and engages a network of community partners and providers that is over 2,700 strong.
